MCL History
The first Twenty20 International match was played in 2005, when Australia took on New Zealand. This format of cricket became instantly popular across the world with the first ICC World Twenty20 championship played only 2 years later.
The T20 format is regarded as the shorter, more intense and exciting alternative to the traditional one-day and test formats that consume more time.
Zafar Shah, a cricket enthusiast and a visionary entrepreneur, realized that the Twenty20 format was yet to unleash its full potential. He was keen to instil more energy into the format. He realized that many of the top cricket legends had left international cricket prior to the launch of the Twenty20. As such, they weren't able to make any serious contribution to this format of cricket.

Chairman’s message

Cricket has covered a long journey, infusing with cultures and societies across many continents, and evolving over time in ways unknown to any other sport. What was once regarded as a pursuit of the nobles is now seen opening its arms to all and sundry. But the evolution doesn't end there.

There are so many fascinating spheres to cricket that the more time we spend studying and understanding its dynamics, the more involved we get with the game. Perhaps, it wouldn't be wrong to say that few other sports, if any, have seen the kind of changes realized in the world of cricket.

president’s message

It is a matter of great pride and privilege to host the prestigious Masters Champions League (MCL 2020). The UAE is committed to its objective of promoting healthy sports activities in the region, and this tournament goes a long way toward achieving this objective.

It acts as a bridge, unifying the top cricket stars across the world in a league never envisioned before in the history of cricket.
